To deselect Do the following

Using the Object pick tool b , click |

anywhere outside the object's highlighting | |

Multiple objects |
Using the Object pick tool, hold down |
|
Shift, and click each object in the image | |
|
window. |
All objects Using the Object pick tool, click the background.
When you deselect an object, it is still active.
If the background is part of the selection, clicking the background in the image window does not deselect all objects.
